Balancing a wheel ensures that the weight is distributed evenly around the wheel and thereby making sure the tyre rotates evenly. The process involves adding small weights to the rim of the wheel which counters any inconsistencies in the rim. For example if one side of the wheel is heavier than the other, the balance would need to be evened up by adding the small weights to the other side of the wheel.
