Each tyre has a tyre valve stem and this holds the tyre pressure inside the tyre and is also where you use to adjust your tyre pressure, both inflation and deflation too.
Each of the valves should have a valve cap fitted as this stops any build up of dirt or grit and also provides an additional seal for the valve.
The valves are generally made from rubber as it means it’s flexible and less likely to be damaged. Over time the rubber can deteriorate or become damaged through normal driving and exposure to the elements which can lead to air escaping.
This is why it’s important to ensure that your tyre valves are in good condition and why we replace your tyres standard valve with a new one whenever we replace a tyre.
The majority of new cars now come fitted with TPMS valves as standard, these look like the standard valves on the outside but are fitted with a sensor. These sensors monitor tyre pressure and report them back to your vehicles computer which is displayed on your vehicles dashboard.
If you encounter any issues with your TPMS please get in touch and we’d be happy to help.
