Why go for Dunlop Tyres?

The first Dunlop tyre was designed in 1888 for a bicycle, but the brand quickly moved on to making top-notch tyres for the emerging automotive industry at the end of the 19th century. Ever since, it's been one of the most well-known tyre brands and continues to produce superb options in today's market.

The Dunlop name is associated with high performance and innovation with its tyres continuing to improve driving experiences and safety on the roads. Each tyre it produces is made from the best quality materials, guaranteeing you an excellent product that won't let you down.

What are the different Dunlop car tyres available?

Dunlop has engineered a huge range of tyres over the years to ensure your car can continue performing as the seasons change. Here are the available options:

  • Summer tyres – ideally fitted when temperatures exceed 7°C, summer tyres from Dunlop offer optimum performance on dry road surfaces. They contain less natural rubber compared to winter or all season tyres, and have shallower tread depths as less grip is needed, ensuring greater fuel efficiency through the summer months.
  • Winter tyres – these consist of far more natural rubber and have deeper tread depths, which allow the tyre to interlock with the road for greater traction on slippery surfaces. The increased rubber in Dunlop winter tyres, like the Winter Sport 5, makes them softer, so more of the tyre is in contact with the road at any one time.
  • All season tyres – four season options from Dunlop offer a balanced performance thanks to medium tread depth levels and amounts of natural rubber. This means your car can perform well and keep you safe in a range of weather conditions.

How to check a Dunlop tyre expiry date

Dunlop tyres don't show an expiry date, but they do have other information that can help you figure it out. To do this, find the DOT number in the sidewall of the tyre and look at the last four digits. The first two numbers show the week they were made and the latter two show the year. For example, 0923 would mean they were made in the ninth week of 2023. From here, you can add 10 years to the date to give you an idea of when they might expire.

Some of the other things that can indicate your Dunlop tyres have expired include:

  • Tread depth below 1.6mm
  • Uneven wear
  • Any bulges or cuts in the tyre
  • Punctures
